Catch the holiday spirit and share it on Jekyll Island with the new St. Nick’s Cedars tree adoption program! Through the inaugural seasonal campaign, area civic groups, clubs, residents and businesses can adopt a Jekyll Island Cedar Tree, then share in the holiday joy by decorating the tree any way they see fit.
From traditional red and green ornaments to an island-themed holiday in paradise, tree sponsors are free to adorn their tree any way they wish. The trees will be on display throughout the holiday season, in front of Fins on the Beach restaurant.
Once all trees are decorated, pictures of each tree will be posted on the Jekyll Island Facebook page for an online voting contest. The contest will run November 28 to December 10, with winners earning both a trophy and seasonal bragging rights.
All adopted trees will be marked with a sign denoting the theme and the adopting organization using the information provided on the adoption application. This is your chance to be creative and show your holiday cheer- so get ready to decorate!
“The St. Nick’s Cedars project is an innovative and creative way to get the community involved to show their seasonal spirit,” said Beth Burnsed, Director of Special Events for the Jekyll Island Authority. “More than a program to simply spruce up a Cedar, St. Nick’s Cedars is also an attempt to bring the community together to show their collective joy this holiday season.”
To adopt a tree, sponsors should fill out the application on the Jekyll Island web site, and return the completed form by November 17. Each tree is $25 to adopt. Applications to adopt the trees can be found on the Jekyll Island web site here. Please mail completed forms to the Jekyll Island Authority Special Events Department, 100 James Road, Jekyll Island, Ga., 31527.
