Quoting from Allison Glock's "What It Means To Be A Mother" on The Daily South, I find her statement all encompassing. "To be a mother is to be given gifts beyond imagining."
Mary Dell Harrington's post "Mothers and Daughters, the Teenage Years," likewise is a tribute to a mother's wisdom.

I am new to this group...but not to southern living. Our house where we reared our children was a southern living house and plan that was featured in the magazine. My husband called the architect, modified a couple of things, and then we spent about a year building. My daughter was in the first grade when we moved in, and now she is to be married in a month. We have downsized into a smaller, empty nest house, but I still study SL for design ideas. I have the added bonus of SL on my iPad, and I think the pics are more "alive." Love SL no matter the format! Msshe ala Sheila

I just thumbed through the latest issue and was admiring the "Cakes in Bloom" and thought how beautiful Southern Sugar Flowers sugar roses would have looked on this delectable desserts!

No, Virginia, You Can’t Fry in the Louvre

...the fair’s organizers replied that frying is forbidden at Le Carrousel du Louvre. She diplomatically responded that she’d pass on poultry since “I’ve no desire for an international fried chicken incident.” Frankly, we think France is missing out on some Southern goodness. “I’m certain that if the Mona Lisa smelled my chicken, she would get a big grin on her face, not her quirky little smile,” Virginia said. - See more at:

I loved Virginia Willis' presentation at FoodBlogSouth with fellow foodie Chadwick Boyd.  She is a hoot and tells it like it is.

Don't know what I'd do without SL!  Has been a drama for 23 years trying to get a subscription here in Oz - when th mags did arrive it would be Thanksgiving issue in Feb and Christmas in time for Easter.  Thanks to iPad I can get the latest issue promptly but still not the same as a nice cup of tea and the real thing.  Like Whitney I think I started readying SL at my Grandma's when we were visiting there so have been a loyal reader from way back.  Time to start on all those Christmas goodies for present tomorrow........

I am getting ready for a cocktail party at my house tomorrow night and I am taking a break playing on the computer!  I have two passed canapes tomorrow night: a blue cheese puff and a tart with chicken salad.  I have lots of other fun pick-ups and dips from Epting Events, one of the south's best caterers.  They do these spectacular Rum Cake desserts that are mini bundt cakes.  I will share a photo after the party.  HEAVENLY.

I am inspired by many of these Holiday Finger Food Appetizers from Southern Living.  I will definitely do a few in our smaller family settings.

Ok, back to polishing silver now!  Love, Eleventh Hour Leavy

I have been thumbing thru Southern Living magazines since I was a little girl.  I have fond memories of looking at them at my grandmother's house when she would baby-sit my brothers and me. I have been a subscriber for many years and still get so excited when a new issue arrives!
