Tusk Chicago

I've been spending a lot of time in the Windy City lately for work and play... I try and pick a neighborhood to explore each trip and this past visit took me to Logan Square. Thankfully I remembered an old friend of mine from college in Birmingham Alabama now lived in Chicago and owned a boutique - two birds one stone. …See More

A WEEKEND IN THE CLASSIC CITY

Posted on August 5, 2014 at 6:57pm 0 Comments

A visit to Athens for me means lots of eating, shopping, and seeing old friends. This summer I ventured to Athens for a wedding/grad school reunion and soaked up as much of the Classic City as possible. It’s always hard to hit all of my favorites, but I sure try.

Old favorites:

5&10 – Five Points

Everything at 5 & 10 is delicious… you cannot go wrong. I like to…

Schools do hold so many memories! Sadly, all three schools that I attended K-12 in my small hometown of Elba, AL, were lost in a terrible flood back in 1990. New, fabulous facilities took their place but it is just not the same. Still, many years later, when I talk to my oldest friends that I grew up with, the conversation often comes back to our old schools.  Thankfully, the facade of the high school was preserved and now in the footprint of the school, a wonderful park and playground was built for the community to enjoy.  It has been a nice way to move forward with a nod to the past and all the memories of generations who passed thru the doors and walked the hallways.  This is photo (not very good - sorry) of what it looked like during the construction of the park which is just beyond the doors.
