My name is Caitlin, and I grew up close to the Florida/Alabama state line in the city of Crestview, Florida (generally I have to describe it as being close to Destin or Pensacola). I moved to Tallahassee last year for college (go Noles!), and it was here that I discovered how much I love my Southern upbringing. With so many people being from Miami or Jacksonville, the people I meet are always talking about my accent or weird habits. Back home, I was considered the complete opposite compared to the many rednecks in my high school. I count it a blessing though, because being here has made me realize what an amazing culture I grew up in. Growing up around kindhearted people who take life slowly is hard to find, and I feel so lucky. So yes, world...I am a monogram-loving, sweet tea-making, grits-eating girl who has half a closet full of clothes my Momma made for me (that woman can sew better than any designer at Fashion Week). I'm just so thankful I finally figured it out.

Hi Caitlin - I grew up just over the Alabama line so I definitely have the Florida Panhandle in my blood! I know exactly where Crestview is without your references :)  I have been blessed to have spent at least half of my life on those beautiful beaches.

Hi Caitlen,

It is so nice to read your lovely comments about your Southern upbringing.  I am truly thankful to have a similar upbringing, and my mother was an amazing seamstress, too!  I grew up in the 70's, and it was not unusual to see large 'sewing' departments at Belks, or other large department stores, even then.  We are fortunate to be able to say we are Southern women!
