I was asked to serve my pickles at Atlanta Eats TV show's holiday shindig. The party took place at Establishment, the newest restaurant to open in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. My husband and I love a good party... so we packed up a few cases of our pickled okra, beans, green tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, carrots and blueberries and headed into the big city! We had a lot of fun working in the kitchen together....putting together charcuterie platters, mingling with the folks with the TV show, and noshing on yummy bites prepared by the cooks from Establishment and from other Atlanta restaurants....but my favorite part of the night was meeting artist Janssen Robinson. I was given an envelope containing two Giclee copies of his paintings. Both of these paintings are hanging on the walls inside Establishment ...and they are gravitating. I especially love the one titled 'Buck Rising' which tells the story of the history of Buckhead. On the back of the 'Buck Rising' Giclee ....Janssen writes: "After the civil war, and the great fire that destroyed the city, the Phoenix rising from flames later became the symbol for Atlanta as it recovered and flourished. In 1845, the town once called Irbyville, forever changed when Henry Irby hung the head of a stag outside of his tavern. 'Meet me at the Buck's head' became the popular phrase, so popular, 'til this day it is called Buckhead. The painting, 'Buck Rising' represents the origins and lasting history of Buckhead."
Known as the 'now painter,' Janssen can be commissioned to perform his talent at events resulting in paintings with energy you can feel just by looking at them. While prowling around on his website, I found a video of Janssen painting LIVE ....on a yacht on Lake Lanier! Check it out!
I can think of so many special events that could be enhanced by Janssen's work ....like weddings, anniversary parties, special dinners, holiday celebrations, a child's first birthday, a tailgate party... I'm putting this artist on my wish list. But first, I'm heading out to look for special frames for my Giclee's! The pickle business isn't always easy...but it does always put me in the right spot at the right time with the right people. Atlanta native, Janssen Robinson is another southern gem!
